Mikkey

Left numb by the untimely passing of Zoey the entire family was at a loss as to what to do. The breeders who had sold Zoey to the family were quickly called, did they have puppies available? The answer was yes, but it would likely be another 3-4 months before they did. The family as a whole was depressed but much to his surprise Weasel was beside himself with grief. It’s natural to take those you love for granted but Weasel had failed to realize how deep his attachment to Zoey had become. In desperation the net for a new dachshund was cast much wider.

On the website puppyfiind.com there was an amazing number of dachshund puppies available from all over the U.S. It seemed like hundreds of puppies were carefully checked out and finally narrowed down to a handful of likely prospects. In the end there were only two still standing (albeit standing very short). They were Mikkey and Snickerdoodle. Snickerdoodle was a black and tan like Zoey had been and Weasel was a bit partial to getting another dachshund of the same color. Mikkey was a sable (red with black highlights around the ears and face and tail) and was clearly the favorite of Beautiful. If your nickname is Beautiful you can sway a lot of votes and this one was no different. After making arrangements on how to have Mikkey flown from Minnesota (that’s right, he’s a norwegian) Beautiful and Weasel drove 45 minutes to the airport and picked up an incredibly cute little bundle of joy.Mikkey Dachshund and Toy

Mikkey was very different than Zoey. Not just his coloring but his entire personality. Zoey was a fairly prototypical smooth coat dachshund, she bonded with on person above and beyond anyone else. Mikkey’s mother was a long coat dachshund and his father a smooth coat. The results were a puppy that loved everyone and anyone. He was certainly willing to feel territorial and had little concern for the size of the dog he was up against but…he was far more laid back than Zoey had been.

Everyone loved Mikkey, even Beautiful’s boss who didn’t particularly like dogs. Several people offered to buy him and almost everyone who met him was charmed by the little loverboy. It seemed he was never happier than to be snuggled up on someone’s lap, and it didn’t really matter whose lap it was. According to the breeder Mikkey’s siblings had been mostly interested in exploring but he had followed his human mother around asking to be held. It’s a practice that he continues with today. If someone doesn’t seem to be involved in something deemed important by the doxie, he makes his interest in attention known.Mikkey Dachshund Poses

All puppies are cute but both Weasel and Beautiful are very partial to doxie pups. Mikkey grew from adorable puppy to handsome dog and while he’s not as cute as he was he continues to garner love from almost all who meet him. He is a licker by nature and will often lick “the air” if he can’t reach whoever is giving him attention at the time. Licking is probably his least treasured trait according to the people who live with him however, it’s hard to get too frustrated as he has an infectious loving personality.
