Rain Rain Go Away - So The Dachshunds Will Go Outside

It’s spring time in the northwest. If you have never been to the northwest you will likely think of Seattle and assume that all of the northwest must rain pretty much everyday. (It’s the same theory that applies to my belief that if you live in Florida you must have had your home destroyed by every hurricane that is reported in that area. Simply put - if you don’t live in an area you tend to generalize what you see on the news.) Those that live nearest to the coast do get a fair amount of rain however Washington and Oregon are divided by the Cascade mountain range making western and eastern sides of either state very different weather wise.

Living on the eastern side means that the Wild Doxies don’t experience a lot of rain and let’s be honest, they don’t really like it. Mikkey is more of a trooper than Abbie. If he needs to take care of bathroom duties and it’s not “pouring” rain he is willing to do his duty. When it’s been raining for several days, as it has lately, this concession on his part almost makes up for wanting to wake Beautiful and Weasel up each morning by licking faces and whining to be pet. Almost, but not quite. Abbie on the other hand is not so committed to outside bathroom concerns. If it’s raining even a little bit, or has been raining enough that the ground is really wet she won’t leave the covered patio area unless she is physicaly picked up and moved. Once moved, depending upon the wetness/coldness of the ground, she will choose to go potty quickly - or run back underneath the covered patio. The problem that can arise if she runs for cover is eventually someone in the family will find a “prize” that’s been left somewhere in the house. Luckily there are only a few spots she will go in the house and most are in fact on easily cleaned surfaces, but it’s not an endearing trait.

So, we’re waiting for the rain to go away and until then checking outside regularly hoping to take advantage of cloud breaks. If the rain decides it’s going to stay for a while I wonder how long it will take until Weasel is so fed up with the whole issue that he creates a covered bathroom area at least temporarily?

  1. Cute story. I could just picture it. I have a little hot house flower that when the temperatures dip below 50 decides that he can just wait for spring to pee.
