Angel Eyes release Dracula movie There is an established order where the wild doixes roam. Order is not taken lightly and prospective laws must be submitted, reviewed by committee, tested for dachshund constitutionality (what a dachshund’s constitution can stand) and finally voted on by all registered voters. (Ex. Mikkey and Abbie are afforded one vote each, Tyler the submissive mut is given a half vote* and Bianca the Bengal is not allowed to vote since she is still considered un unregistered alien by wild doxie law.) A simple majority is required for a law to pass.

One such law has come under a certain amount of fire, particularly from Bianca and Beautiful. The law, commonly referred to as the dachshund chair law (or dachshund throne law) names the chair next to Weasel’s home office desk as a wild doxie preserve. Bianca and Beautiful believe this to be racism and have done their best to have the law overturned. However, in a recent supreme dachshund court decision it was decided that “seperate yet equal” was constitutional (to dachshunds) with a vote of 2.5 for and none against. (Addendum: It is believed that Tyler voted with the rest of the court in hopes of someday being rewarded with a full vote. Bianca attempted to vote against but was not recognized by the court.)
Having had no success in working with the system Bianca has taken to rogue behavior, occasionally flaunting her disdain for the “system” by attempting to enter the dachsund preserve. Abbie, who spends more time than Mikkey at the preserve, must then defend the preserve through aggressive posturing and occasional nips. If Bianca is not dissuaded Abbie is forced to leave the preserve and chase off the intruder back to the family room which has been designated a bengal reservation.
*It’s unfortunate but true that bias exists just about everywhere. This is true where the wild doxies roam as well. Tyler the submissive mutt – who is of full cainine lineage – is nonetheless not a dachshund and thus she is not awarded a full vote. Tyler has done her best to adapt and be accepted into wild doxie society but thus far she remains a second class citizen in the land that she initially claimed several years prior to dachshund immigration.

Mikkey and Abbie had a great weekend with a couple of extra “hands” to offer them some attention. Additionally, some new household furniture came with our visitors which is always cause for canine celebration. Beautiful received two chairs as a part of her birthday presents but the wild doxies are fairly certain the chairs were intended for them to use as beds.

Mikkey spent more time than Abbie on the new chairs, possibly because he can jump up onto the chairs easier than she can. He went so far as to curl up in one of the chairs on Sunday night when he had the option of snuggling next to beautiful who turned in early, tired from the weekend activities. It’s pretty unusual for Mikkey not to take advantage of snuggling in bed so apparently the new chairs have the wild doxie seal of approval.

Quite a stir where the wild doxies roam today. Beautiful, Weasel, Phoenixtail and Ferretboy are all preparing for the arrival of Beautiful’s parents who have come to join the family for Beautiful and Phoenixtail’s birthday on Saturday. (Yep, they have the same birthday.) Mikkey and Abbie took all the preperations in stride. They had a great time wandering in the yard while everyone was outside cleaning up, and pretty much slept while any work was done inside.
Grandpa Jon and Grandma Cathy will be arriving in just a few hours but there’s no sense telling the doxies that. The full excitement of visitors doesn’t hit them until the doorbell rings. And when they see a suitcase come into the house it’s really a cause for celebration. You see, a suitcase means whoever is here is going to stay for a bit to give them the attention they so richly want (I mean deserve, of course).
So until the doorbell rings they can just continue to rest. It’s important to conserve energy until you really need it.

Great News!
We have just added a photo gallery to Wild Doxies. There are only a few photos there now but look for more photos of Mikkey Abbie and Zoey soon. It is also our hope that you will share/submit your own dachshund photos to our gallery. We would love to add your pic to the gallery, from funny to cute and everything in between. We will sort out the submission details and pass them on soon so check back often.
There are other changes afoot as well. We are hoping soon to begin work on a dachshund breeder directory and after that maybe a section on living with your dachshund. If you have a suggestion of something you would like to see here fell free to let us know.

Every night I get into my bed to read, then Wimper, Wimper, Wimper! thats Mikkey wanting to get up on my bed. I pick him up and then he starts his usual licking. I stop him from licking me and get back to my book. Then Mikkey tries to get under my blankets! I let him under and then he starts licking me again! I stop him yet again and finilly get to be able to read. Then when all is quite Mikkey falles asleep and soon after I fall asleep. That is what happens on most nights.

As you may have noticed, we like dachshunds here. But wouldn’t it be great if something could be done about their breath. Dogs in general are not known for sweet smelling breath but dachshunds excel in this area of dubious achievement. Perhaps it relates to another dachshund trait, being fascinated by anything that is disgusting in sight or smell.
If Mikkey or Abbie find something that is, for lack of a better word “gross”, they simply must try to lick it or eat it. From rotten milk to vomit – it all looks good to them. For example:

Mikkey is very fond of Bitter Apple a spray which is sold to help teach puppies and dogs not to bite or lick. Looking at the ingredients the primary ingredient is isopropyl alcohol, yuck! Zoey once got mildly sick because she licked at bug spray after our neighbors had the outside of their house sprayed to keep ants out.

Choosing a dachshund puppy can be quite challenging. Your best bet is to check out several reputable breeders, visit each one and get a chance to see the puppies and their parents in person. That “may” give you an idea of the personality of dog you will be adopting. Trouble is, choosing a puppy is a lot like choosing a mate. We get so overwhelmed with the beauty of the outside we can’t think logically.

After Zoey was lost to us there was such a palpable grief over the entire family it was nearly impossible to think clearly about choosing another puppy. The primary concern was getting one quickly to help salve the pain of our loss. While we are quite happy with our decision the truth is we were quite lucky. We chatted online and over the phone with a few breeders and narrowed our decision to two pups; Mikkey and Snickerdoodle. Both breeders were very helpful and seemed very committed to the proper placement of their puppies but when you are dealing with people over a long distance you just never know.
If you’ve even glanced at this site you know we chose Mikkey. In truth there was much discussion about that choice. Weasel was inclined to get another black and tan like Zoey but Beautiful and the children were enamoured with Mikkey. As is stated elsewhere on this site, when your nickname is Beautiful a lot of things go your way and so our Norwegian badger hound was headed out to the Northwest. A note to breeders – I’m sure we wouldn’t have kept the name snickerdoodle. If you want to have a puppy adopted by a good family try coming up with less corny names. We looked through hundreds of puppy descriptions and some of the names were appallling or “bust a gut” funny. (In truth we probably wouldn’t have chosen Mikkey as a name on our own but it wasn’t horrible and so we kept it.)
Above you can see one of the pictures for each pup we were looking at when we made our decision. As I said above, the outside appearnace may not mean much when picking a pet, but, which would you have chosen?

Just added Wild Doxies to Technorati. According to Technorati they are, “a real-time search engine that keeps track of what is going on in the blogosphere — the world of weblogs.” They also allow sites to be maked with tags (just words really) that define what they are about. For example I added word tags of :dachshund, doxie, weiner dog, dog and a few more to describe Wild Doxies.

What Love Is divx The Flying Gauchito dvdrip It’s the girl, Abbie. It’s not a problem that she wants up on my lap while I’m working – the problem is that she doesn’t want up on my lap. Instead she likes to play a little game. If I put her on my lap then she stands up for a bit. If that doesn’t have the intended results then she puts her front feet on the desk. Continue ignoring her and she stands completely onto the desk. This ploy is intended to get her picked up and held up by my chest or shoulder. Wouldn’t you know it – that makes it harder to type. Maybe she’s trying to let me know that once midnight has passed it’s time to go to bed?

Perhaps we are just nickname people but I think it’s more likely that dachshunds simply engender nicknames naturally. Because of their slightly comical appearance and nature there may be a subconcious need to give them their own “special” names to illustrate their importance in our lives. It’s also possible that a doxie forces their way into your life (without a hint of shame or guilt) until they feel like a truly trusted friend or family member. Regardless, Mikkey and Abbie have nicknames that they get called as often, or more so, than their given names.

His personality is more comical or exaggerated than Abbie’s which lends itself to spontaneous bouts of creativity. Look for a post on the Mikker do song sometime soon.
