At Wild Doxies we witnessed an uncommon sight, Abbie playing and fighting over a toy with Mikkey. This little war only lasted a few minutes, but in that time Abbie managed to take the squeaky toy away from Mikkey multiple times. When Mikkey finally got tired of failing to keep his toy and stopped going after it, Abbie started to calm down and relax. That was the end of the war, the score was Abbie – 5 points : Mikkey – 1 point.

Teaching a Dachshund to catch snow on their tongue.

Weather has been a bit strange in the Northwest this year. In February the weather started getting so warm that we were sure Winter was all but over. Unfortunately, Winter struck back and we found ourselves dodging falling snow on Saturday. The snow didn’t last long but we did get a chance to give the dachshunds a lesson in the art of catching snow on your tongue.

Abbie did her best but she never quite got the hang of it. She seemed to be doing a better job of imitating Michael Jordan than catching snowflakes.

Mikkey failed for entirely different reasons. Given the opportunity to try and lick snow or lick Phoenix there really was no contest in his mind as you can see above. So while our attempt at teaching the finer points of winter frolicking to the dachshunds was less than successful it should be noted that a good time was had by all. Particularly Weasel who was able to test out his birthday present a Canon 40D which replaced the outdated Olympus E-10 he’d been using.

Tongue Lashing – Dachshund Style

Probably the thing that Mikkey hears more often than anything else is “stop licking”! There simply is no question he’s got a serious oral fetish. I have tried to convince him to get a hobby (perhaps collecting football cards) but it has been to no avail.

For the most part he is kept from licking family members, at least for any length of time, but whenever possible he is licking his paw, whatever blanket he’s laying on, or in this case Abbie. Poor Abbie was simply resting nicely when Mikkey joined her and decided it was time for a good old fashioned spit bath. While she didn’t seem fond of his actions she was patient and let him get it out of his system. Unfortunately for all of us it would not be long until he was jones’n for another lick fix.

While she feels better than she did today there is no question that she’s not up to her usual happy-go-lucky self. Mikkey the wild dachshund has taken it upon himself to personally see to her eventual healing. As I type this he is hovering by her bed (I mean couch) making sure she is not in need of anything. Dachshunds save starfish from death

Mikkey and Abbie were quite diligent about protecting their find in Lincoln City. After making sure that nothing was going to harm the starfish (as Weasel and Beautiful told them the creature was named) they asked Beautiful to assist them in it’s rescue. Here Beautiful holds the starfish while Mikkey and Abbie show their delight at being heros!

The starfish was returned to it’s native enviornment with Beautiful’s help. After a great deal of patroling the beach area where the starfish was found Mikkey decided their work was done and allowed the group to return to their cabin. Abbie had long since decided “heroing” was all well and good but a girl dachshund has to have her beauty rest. She grumbled at Mikkey on the way home about his lack of good sense but forgave him after a nice long nap.

Behind Enemy Lines: Axis of Evil full On a recent outing to the Oregon Coast (specifically Lincoln City) Mikkey and Abbie came across a very strange creature. Being good and noble dachshunds they immediately checked to make sure the creature was alright and that nothing would attempt to harm it. In this picture Mikkey takes his turn monitering the creature while Abbie keeps an eye out for trouble.

Abbie decided the baskets were getting way too much attention. That could only mean that she was not getting enough. Yes, she is a dachshund princess! Weasel blames Beautiful for her spoiling but of course Beautiful blames Weasel – it’s hard to know where the truth is. The only thing that is certain is Abbie is sure we should be petting her right now!

Mikkey became certain that there was chocolate or other edibles in one of the easter egg baskets. We eventually had to seperate him from the basket as his interest became a bit too intense! Really though, he should have been happy. A dachshund’s height makes him perfectly suited to find more eggs than the rest of the hunters.
